We train and certify the engineers who deploy AI where the work actually happens. Structured courses. Independent examinations. Built from deployment practice, not textbooks.
The shift
Palantir defined the Forward Deployed Engineer; the industry now hires for it across the AI frontier. There is no agreed competency framework and no structured assessment. AIU exists to build that standard — and to train the people who meet it.
Flagship programme
What the role lacks is a shared standard — an agreed competency framework and a structured assessment. CFDE is built to be that standard, drawn from active deployment practice across regulated sectors, and first delivered on-premises in 2025.
The credential stack
Each programme pairs a training course with a separate certification examination. The course teaches; the exam certifies. CFDE is delivering now — the other two are in development.
CFDE · Live
For engineers who put AI into client environments — customer discovery through production handoff. Foundation, Professional, Specialist.

For engineers who build AI automation pipelines — agent design, orchestration, workflow automation, multi-system integration.
Register interest →CAME · In development
For leaders who govern AI strategy and adoption — governance, risk, AI economics, change management, regulatory compliance.

Who packs your parachute
A forward deployed engineer is only as ready as the people who trained them and the kit they carry. At AIU you train on real systems, with 20+ frontier models in hand, under instructors who shipped production AI before most had heard of an agent — so you are field-ready before your employer deploys you.
Your kit · AIU’s official AI platform
AIU’s official AI platform, developed by XEROTECH. One workspace, 20+ frontier models across eight providers, plus text-to-speech and image generation — in your hand throughout training. Privacy is built into the architecture: sensitive data is detected and replaced in your browser before any message reaches a model. Switch models mid-conversation without losing context, edit what the AI produces and send it straight back, and see the cost of every message before you send it. AIU learners get 50% off all plans.
Explore CallGPT →The live system you train on
A real AI governance and regulatory-compliance platform, studied as a working case study in the CFDE Professional programme. You train on a system built for regulated environments — not a textbook scenario — before your employer puts you in one.
Your unit
AIU’s alumni network. Completing a programme makes you a member for life — a community of practitioners you trained alongside, and stay connected to long after you deploy.
Career impact
The Forward Deployed Engineer has moved from a Palantir specialism to one of the most sought-after roles in enterprise AI. The demand is documented. The standard is not — which is precisely the gap a leveled, independent certification closes.
Forward Deployed Engineer job postings in a single year, April 2025 to April 2026 — an eightfold rise.1
Year-on-year growth in postings for the role through 2025, as every major AI company built dedicated FDE teams.2
Among those building FDE teams to embed engineers inside client organisations are Palantir, OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Cloud, Salesforce, and Stripe.3 As Andrew Ng notes, the FDE is one of the new, in-demand jobs in AI — evidence the field is creating roles, not erasing them.4
What the role still lacks is a shared definition of competence. An FDE is not a solutions engineer with a new title, nor a customer-success manager who can code.5 CFDE exists to define and certify what the role actually requires.
Course domains
Beyond the CFDE credential stack, AIU teaches across six domains — instructor-led courses and curated learning paths for engineers, analysts, and leaders.
Applied ML and deep learning, generative AI and prompt engineering, MLOps, data science, and data engineering.
Agent design and orchestration, workflow and business-process automation, and AI integration for non-technical functions.
Defensive and cloud security, AI security and adversarial robustness, GDPR, data protection, and privacy-by-design.
AI governance and responsible AI, the EU AI Act, tech policy and regulatory affairs, risk management, and assurance.
AI-driven marketing and automation, analytics and attribution, and content strategy across video and multimodal formats.
AI-augmented product building, lean startup method with AI, and data and AI literacy for leadership.
The foundations
The research is published with DOIs, the registrations are public, and the programme is led by the engineer who built the practice it teaches.
Noman Shah, FBCS
Founder & President · Programme Lead, CFDE
Fellow of the British Computer Society. Nine patents cited by Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, and IBM. Seven published research papers with DOIs. Executive education at Harvard Business School and Oxford Saïd. The CFDE curriculum draws directly from deployment practice across energy, legal, tax, healthcare, education, and governance — including live regulated-sector AI deployment through affiliated company XEROTECH.
